Feliza Bursztyn in The Names of Feliza: The Publication by Juan Gabriel Vásquez

Casas Riegner is pleased to announce the publication of the book The Names of Feliza by Juan Gabriel Vásquez, which explores the life and legacy of Feliza Bursztyn, one of the most influential figures in Colombian art. Her practice marked a turning point in the exploration of industrial materials and the breaking of traditional conventions.

Bursztyn used humor and irreverence as strategies of subversion in a context dominated by patriarchal structures. In her own words, she stated: “My interest in scrap metal is an interest in poetry.” This vision guided her artistic practice, where metallic waste acquired new meanings to challenge both the capitalist system and aesthetic and social norms. Her work established a critical dialogue about the marginalization of women artists in Colombia and their representation in art.
