First exhibition of Beatriz González in the Netherlands: From the MUAC to the De Pont Museum, with “War and Peace: A Poetics of Gesture”

Casas Riegner is pleased to announce that the exhibition “War and Peace: A Poetics of Gesture” by Beatriz González, curated by Cuauhtémoc Medina and Natalia Gutiérrez Montes, is traveling to the De Pont Museum. After its presentation at the Museo Universitario Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC) in Mexico, the exhibition will open this Saturday, October 5th, in Tilburg, Netherlands. González, who studied in Rotterdam in 1966, now returns to the Netherlands to present her work, marking a key moment that connects her early training with her current trajectory in contemporary art.

The exhibition offers an in-depth look at her work. Through paintings, drawings, prints, and public art pieces, the artist explores bodily gestures inspired by images from photojournalism, conveying deep empathy towards everyday life and tragedy. Highlighting her unique ability to translate human gestures into a visually emotive language, the exhibition also features a selection of the most significant works from her career, including pieces that have been part of the museum’s collection since 2021. The De Pont collection includes renowned artists such as Willem de Kooning, Ai Weiwei, Gerhard Richter, and Richard Serra, among others.

Recognized as one of the most important Colombian artists, Beatriz González has left an indelible mark on Latin American art history. Her work, focused on the political and social history of Colombia, reflects both human suffering and resilience.

On view from October 5, 2024, to March 9, 2025.
