Santiago Díaz Escamilla and Carlos Alfonso are part of the exhibition "Excavar hasta llegar a las estrellas", which showcases emerging art and notable works from the Banco de la República’s collection. Inspired by the film Koyaanisqatsi, this exhibition examines the symptoms of contemporary imbalance, exploring land exploitation, industrialization, and the impact of technology.

The artists are featured in the section “Vida en equilibrio, indicios” of the exhibition. In this gallery, their work focuses on seeking alternatives to contemporary chaos, proposing a return to nature, ancestral cultures, and more sustainable ways of inhabiting the planet.

Santiago Díaz Escamilla presents images of seemingly untouched landscapes, such as the jungle and an Andean glacier, suggesting an ancient connection to territories that still preserve a natural balance. Carlos Alfonso, through his paintings, references the richness of ancestral cultures in Colombia, exploring how these civilizations maintained a harmonious relationship with their environment.

Both artists are part of a group that, in this section, contrasts the technological imbalance and urban chaos portrayed elsewhere in the exhibition. Their works invite reflection on the possibility of recovering a state of balance through greater respect for nature and traditional ways of life.
